All-Optical Logic XOR Gate Exploiting XPM and Polarization Rotation in Single Highly Nonlinear Fiber
A simple 10Gbit/s all-optical logic XOR gate based on cross-phase modulation(XPM) in highly nonlinear fibers (HNLF)is numerically demonstrated. By using a Kerr shutter, the polarization rotation induced by Kerr effect in a short HNLF can restraint the residual light wave because of incomplete destructive interference, and the extinction ratio(ER) of the XOR gate is ex- pected to increase by approximately 13dB. The imple- mentation simplicity and high-bit-rate operation make the proposed device suitable for ultrafast applications in the emerging all-optical networks.
