Retrieval of Water-leaving Radiance from Remote Sensing Image HJ/CCD in Inland Waters

Water-leaving radiance is very low in the total signal of remote sensing image over waters, and it is an important apparent optical variables in water color remote sensing and is often used to deduce the concentration of phytoplankton pigment and suspended matter in waters from images. Considering the reflection of water bottom in inland waters, the research presents an algorithm of distributed calculation to retrieve water-leaving radiance from remote sensing images with measured synchronously meteorological data based on the former researchers results.Taking Lake Taihu,China as a research area, with meteorological data measured at time of overpassing of HJ/CCD on April 22, 2009, the radiance of atmosphere scattering, sun glitter from water surface, whitecap on the water surface and reflected from water bottom corresponding to four bands of HJ/CCD image are calcuted respectively. Then the water-leaving radiance is retrieved from HJ/CCD image over Lake Taihu. Comparison with the experiment water-leaving radiance above water surface, the retrieval accuracy of B1 in HJ/CCD image is the best, the second for B3, the third for B2, while that of B4 is the worst. As for the radiance at sensor, the retrieval accuracy from HJ/CCD image is not enough higher in Lake Taihu.
