Vector Conversion Algorithm and Its Application in DEM Generation from Topographic Map with DWG Format
Generating digital elevation model (DEM) with topographic map with DWG format and constructing 3D terrain scene has become a hot research topic currently. Based on analyzing the data structure of DWG format and the technical features of ARX, a new conversion algorithm is proposed. Firstly, the raw data is processed to remove the data exception such as inconsistent direction of terrain contours, fold points, redundant points and so on. Then the elevation points and the elevation data note text are matched to generate to the objects with 3D information. Finally, we can extract the 3D data points in the contour lines with discretization method. If necessary, the discrete data model obtained here can be transformed into grid data model by data interpolation. To check the performance of this conversion method, some experiments are made with the prototype system. The results show that the method can not only generate DEM data quickly with high accuracy, but also the conversion operation is simplified greatly. In the terrain scene modeling fields, the algorithm will have a broad application prospects.
