A Community-Based Trust Model for P2P Networks

The emergence of decentralized and dynamic applications draws a lot of attention to P2P system. In large scale P2P networks, communities are often established dynamically with peers that are unrelated and unknowing to each other. So a trust model is needed to provide a way for building trust through social control without trust third parties. In this paper, a new community-based trust model for P2P networks is proposed. There are two main features of our model. First, referral trust information is given to communities for each requestor and the referral trust information is then combined with functional trust to find a suitable service provider, in this sense the prior knowledge of requestors about the environment is used to promote the collaboration. Second, the method to update referral trust value of each community is given, thus peers can learn from experiences about the environment. In order to justify the proposed model, we compare it with the exiting models. The experiment results show that the use of community structure indeed improve the performance of the P2P networks.
