A Grid-based Topology Control Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks

Topology control is a fundamental issues in Wireless Sensor Networks, it is also a very important way to extend the lifetime of entire WSNs. This paper proposes an improved topology control algorithm based on virtual grid and cluster-based topology control algorithm, it takes the residual energy of nodes in consideration for selecting clusterheads in virtual grids so that the node with most residual energy would become clusterhead. This topology control algorithm balances the enegy consumption, optimises topology structure, enhances the networks robust and extends lifetime of entire wireless sensor network.
