Information Retrieval in Indian Languages:Query Expansion Models for Telugu Language as a Case Study
Query Expansion is recent trend in Information Retrieval.Query reformulation process is to find an optimal set of terms to add to the old query.Various methods are proposed to expand the query;one of them is given a query and searching for all the synonyms that expands the query automatically.Enriching a users query with synonyms or related terms can improve search performance in a text retrieval system. The other way is to use language dependent model. In this method by using a Stemmer, the root of the query is found and then the root is expanded by adding various suffixes according to the Language grammar rules. In this paper an investigation is made to compare the effect of Pseudo Relevance Feedback (PRF) with different global parameters. The effect of PRF with Synset and Word net is also aimed to be investigate for Indian languages by taking Telugu language as a case study.
