Route Information Poisoning in MANETs: Analysis and Defenses
Routing layer has a great importance in any network including MANETs and thus remained the best target for malicious attacks. Acquisition of nonmalicious route information is required to carry out smooth network operations.False route error, route cache poisoning and route table overflow are three kinds of malicious attacks, which fall under route table/information poisoning attacks. This paper analyzed a new i.e.fabricated RREPs kind of route table/information poisoning attack against very wellknown on-demand routing protocols i.e.AODV and DSR. Our simulation study shows that DSR performed better than AODV under same number of malicious nodes and other network parameters. We believe the use of promiscuous mode by DSR as the reason of its better performance over AODV.Existing defensive techniques/solutions are also discussed in the last section with our suggestions to mitigate this malicious attack.
