Adaptive LMS Filter for Noise Cancellation Based on FPGA
This paper presents a low power design of adaptive LMS (Least-Mean-Square) filter, using an 8-bit fixed-point arithmetic representation, for noise cancellation based on FPGA. The design has been synthesized and simulated in Xiiinx ISE. LMS algorithm is widely used in the adaptive filter for noise cancellation system or hearing aid system. We determined the step size parameter u, through simulated the LMS algorithm on MATLAB. After this work, we implemented and simulated the traditional LMS circuit and the proposed LMS circuit in Xilinx ISE. We found that the proposed circuit uses less resource than the traditional circuit. Using the XPower Analyzer tool, the power consumption is reported. The results show that the proposed circuit dissipates less power than the traditional circuit. It nearly economizes 43% power consumption compared with the traditional one.
