Vehicle Collision Avoidance Warning in Virtual Driving Environment
In order to reduce the traffic collision crash, a Vehicle Collision Avoidance Warning System(VCAWS) based on driving simulator was developed. Based on study of the virtual traffic environment, a new method to build the data model of virtual road was proposed. Complex traffic information was simplified into a Nine Palaces model in our method. Then the bounding box method was introduced to detect collision behavior between Virtual Users Vehicle (VUV) and objects. When the bounding box of the VUV hit other objects, it will obtain the objects position in VUVs visual area and gather the traffic information around the VUV. According to these data, the VUVs driving behavior was analyzed and recognized. The VCAWS will send warning information with sound and text when driving behavior is abnormal or the VUV is dangerous. The experimental results illustrated that the VCAWS can make a real-time and effective warning when the VUVs driving behavior is abnormal or dangerous.
