Link Budget Calculation of WCDMA Based UMTS,3G Mobile Technology
UMTS,a very recent GSM and GPRS based 3G mobile phone technology,standardized by 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP),uses WCDMA as underlying standard for air interface.To deliver best possible multimedia services to the users in the mobile domain,network planning process e.g.Link budget planning should get maximum focus since it helps to dimension the required coverage,capacity & quality of service requirement.This paper demonstrates such a link budget calculation in differential rural,urban,suburban areas considering various propagation model like- Free space model,Okamura-Hata & Walfisch Ikegami model and proposes some trade-off criteria in system configuration & financial aspects of UMTS technologies that helps to meet the system performance required at the early design stage.
