A Mathematical Morphology-based License Plate Location Method in Complex Environment
This paper proposes a novel method of vehicle license plate location in complex environment which is based on mathematical morphology.The method first implements mathematical morphological multi-scale edge detection that utilizes morphological opening and closing to reduce noise,constructs different scale structuring elements to enhance the edges.Then a series of morphological operations is used to transform binarized license plate image into a lot of separate connected regions,removes smaller regions and detects the plate region by connected regions identification,finally cuts plate location out according to characteristics of plate shape.The results show that the method can implement fast and accurate license plate location effectively in complex environment.
