Is Free Microsoft Security Essentials a Predatory Pricing?
Starting from the status of Microsoft in security software industry, intentions of Microsoft releasing free Security Essentials and the possibility of recoupment, the paper discussed whether Microsoft was practicing predatory pricing. It concluded that due to Microsoft not having the monopoly status in the security software market, and there being some free security software before Microsoft releasing MSE, the intention of releasing MSE was probably not to eliminate competitors. In addition, the maintenance of monopoly position and the possibility of recoupment were uncertain because of limitations of current security softwares and characteristics of the security software market structure, Microsoft was not engaging in predatory pricing.
