Broad Knowledge Sourcing for Innovation:A Case Study on Danyang High Performance Metals Cluster
This paper attempts to illustrate that the broad knowledge sourcing from outside contributes to the innovation of small and medium-sized enterprises located in a cluster through a case of Danyang High Performance Metals Cluster.For this purpose,the evolution of dominant knowledge sources adopted by the enterprises in different stage of development,and their attitudes,activities and effects of broad knowledge sourcing are examined.The results indicate that the external knowledge sources have positive and significant influence on SMEs product and process innovation,and knowledge sourcing has extended from inside of the cluster to outside.Besides universities and research institutions,the enterprises should interact with outside customers,users or suppliers more actively,which implies broader knowledge sourcing should be highlighted in the future.
