Study on the Modified Polyvinyl Alcohol Oxygen-insulating Material Preventing Coal Stockpile Spontaneous Combustion
In order to study the modified polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) material preventing spontaneous combustion of the coal stockpiles, the modifiers (Al and A2) were used to modify the PVA which is an excellent oxygeninsulating material. Then the structure, swelling degree, viscosity, mechanical characteristics, and oxygen-insulating characteristics of the modified PVA material were examined separately. The results showed that the plastic of modified PVA material was highly improved, and swelling degree was lower. Oxygen concentration in coal pile could be decreased from 21% to 3%. The rate of coal oxidation and selfheating were weakened. So spontaneous combustion of coal stockpile could be prevented effectively by modified PVA material.
