Methane Sensor in Mining Based on Piezoelectric Crystal

A new sensor, based on the principle of piezoelectricity, is developed for the detection of CH4 in coal mines. It is prepared by coating activated carbon sensitive to CH, on the surface of electrodes of piezoelectric crystal. The effect of temperature and interfering gases was studied to find the adaption of the sensor to the environment in coal mines. The experimental results show that the output of the sensor has a good linear relationship with the concentration of CH4 between 0 and 2% and the sensor can be reliably used to detect CE, in coal mines by environmental compensation.
