A Novel Electromechanical Model of Piezo Injector using MATLAB/Simulink

In order to perform an in depth study of the common rail piezoelectric actuated injector, a mathematical model has been developed by using the Matlab/Simulink environment This model consists of three subsystems: the piezoelectric subsystem, the mechanical subsystem and the hydraulic subsystem. The experiments showed that the model is in good agreement with the actual piezoelectric actuated injector in terms of the rising and falling slopes of the injection rate, the injection start time and end time. The average error between the experimental injected fuel volume and the simulated injected fuel volume for a given pulse was about 5%. There are distinct influences of the common rail pressure, to the piezoelectric actuated injector response. Consequently, the proposed model can be used as a design tool for the development of piezoelectric actuated injector and piezoelectric common rail injection system.
