An Adaptive Fault Detection Algorithm for Ad Hoc Network

In order to improve the reliability and safety of the system, a fault detection algorithm for Ad Hoc Network is researched and proposed based on heartbeat strategy. In the light of multi-hop communication and promiscuous mode in Ad Hoc Network, a timeout prediction model is proposed which is used to predict the heartbeat message arrival time. According to the network status, the predicted arrival time of the heartbeat message is modified and updated in real time. Based on the timeout prediction model, an adaptive fault detection algorithm for Ad Hoc Network is proposed which is proved to satisfy strong completeness and eventually strong accuracy, and is a (△)P fault detector. Simulation results indicate the algorithm can accurately predict heartbeat arrival time (timeout) and has the good detection accuracy metrics, and can be used for fault detection under Ad Hoc Network.
