Dynamic Analysis and Optimization of Small Size Motorized Spindle-Toolholder System
Small size motorized spindle is widely applied in microscale machine tools (mMTs) in precise manufacturing. Spindle characteristics should be analyzed in machine tool design and optimization. Spindle -toolholder system is the weakest part in the whole machine tool. Precise 3D model of spindle is established to calculate deformation at the top of spindle using ANSYS. Natural frequency is also calculated to modify machine tool body design. Spindle size is optimized including spindle span, supporting bearing rigidity, rotor coil length and rotor diameter. Appropriate parameters are chosen to minimize the spindle size and improve the performance.
