Inversion of Particle Size Distribution with Unknown Refractive Index from Specific Turbidimetry
In the spectral extinction particle sizing technique, an inversion method the dependent model based on the specific turbidimetry is proposed, in which both the particle size distribution and refractive index of particle can be determined according to the expression of specific turbidity at multiwavelengths. The specific turbidimetric method can determine the particle size distribution and refractive index from only four specific turbidity equations for a monodisperse system and six specific turbidity equations for a polydisperse system which the average particle size and refractive index are obtained firstly which assumes the particle system is monodisperse. The feasibility and reliability of this inversion method are investigated for the monodisperse and polydisperse particle systems. Numerical simulation results indicate that a fairly reasonable representation of the particle size distribution can be obtained from the specific turbidimetry without known the refractive index of particle beforehand.
