The Mechanism Of Paternalistic Leadership in Cross-functional Teams Under Crisis Situations
Based on the surveys from the cross-functional medical teams actively involved in Wenchuan earthquake relief, this paper analyses the mechanism of paternalistic leadership in cross-functional teams under the earthquake crisis situations. The results indicate that under crisis situations both moral and benevolent leadership have a positive effect on subordinates satisfactions with leadership and their perceived cohesion of cross-functional teams. However, the effect of authoritarian leadership is significantly negative, and this negative effect would be more significant as the degree of information uncertainty is higher. Our empirical evidence implies that the leaders under crisis situations and leading the cross-functional teams should choose moral and benevolent leadership, while authoritarian leadership should be averted.
cross-functional teams crisis situations morality (moral leadership) benevolence (benevolent leadership) authoritarianism (authoritarian leadership)
