The Effects Of Capabilities And Distance On Chinese Firms OFDI Motivations: A Conceptual Model

Outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) has been seen particularly important for Chinese firms to catch more opportunities in global economy in postcrisis era. But limited successful stories of Chinese firms OFDI make managers doubt its importance and get lost in its implementation. This paper developed a conceptual model consisting of firm-specific factors, context factors and firms OFDI motivations to understand the nature of Chinese firms OFDI strategy. We proposed the direct effects of capabilities (firm-specific factor) on motivations and moderating effects of distance (context factor) on the relationship between capabilities and motivations for future empirical research.
