The Characteristics of Carbon Cycling and Stabilization Mechanisms of SOC in Farmland of Black Soil

The black soil in northeast China is well known of its high SOC stocks and fertility; it plays a crucial role in national food production. The intensification of agriculture has caused serious agricultural and ecological problems. Moreover, intensive soil cultivation has lead to a loss of soil C, therefore contributing to the accumulation of CO2 emissions in the atmosphere. These issues spurred scientists and government leaders interest in assessing to what extent the black soil zone can decrease CO2 emitted to atmosphere and how to develop iow-C emission agricultural production. Therefore, based on literature data about long-term filed experiment, we evaluated the characteristics of C loss and its influential factors, and identified the mechanism of C stabilization in black soil of northeast China, In black soil region, croplands are net sink of atmosphere carbon pool in the light of analysis of net primary productivity (NEP). However, the total SOC decrease under different fertilization treatments is mainly attributed to the lack of organic inputs. The carbon budget was mainly influenced by fertilization, temperature, soil moisture and so on. Soil CO2 efflux correlated strongly with soil temperature and moisture. Finally, we concluded that the C stabilization in black soil are attributed to physical protection and low temperature.
