Diurnal and Seasonal Variations of CO2 Concentration and Efflux in Cotton Field of Northwestern China
Concentration and efflux of CO2 were measured during cotton growing season in northwestern China. This study showed a modest diurnal cycle in soil surface CO2 efflux, especially during June-July when CO2 efflux rate was relatively high. There was a strong seasonality in both CO2 concentration and CO2 efflux. CO2 efflux showed a peak in mid-July whereas CO2 concentration reached the highest prior to early July in the upper 30 cm. For the whole cotton growing season, accumulated CO2 efflux was 3.94 Mg C ha-1.
