Dynamic Adaptation of Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks

As we know, if wireless sensor networks want to get a perfect performance, one of the key points is that most links of this network is stable. Experiment in our testbeds and reference to previous works, we find that most intermediate links shift between poor and good delivery. And link burstiness can greatly affect protocol performance. That is why protocols like opportune transmissions would perform differently on different networks. Through the experiments, we find that, the IPI (inter-packet intervals) and the packet length greatly affects the quality of the link. And of course, the different protocols will also perform differently when they are under the same IPI or the same packet length. So, in this paper we focus on how these two factors affect the impact of link quality. In order to get longer and more stable network, we have to make a tradeoff between these two factors to obtain the best link. We find by changing the IPI and the packet length dynamically, the protocols performs better.
