Static Analysis of Gearbox Casing Using Submodeling Approach in ANSYS

The present shipbuilding industry is booming at a faster pace. Owing to this there is a demand for higher durability target, reduced product development cycle time and lower design costs. Simulation happens to be an effective and reliable too to meet this demand. The paper explains the use of analysis software in the design of gearbox casing. The gearbox casing houses important transmission component like gears and shafts. Thus the strength of the gear box casing is an important parameter to be taken into account while designing. In order to assess the strength, of the gearbox casing, a step by step approach is adopted. It was statically analyzed using simulation software Ansys. The analysis was carried out on two different models global or coarse model and submodel. Thus the scope of the paper is limited to statically analyze and using a submodel method for analyzing.
