Error Estimates and Numerical Simulation for Characteristics Finite Element Solution of Richards Equation with Negative Pressure as Variable

The Galerkin characteristic finite element method is applied to set the numerical model of 1-D water flow in unsaturated soils with negative pressure as variable, and the optimal error estimates in L2 norm is obtained. At last, the numerical simulation is done. The result demonstrates that the method is suitable for the demand of practical work because of its higher precision.
