Numerical Simulation of Stretch Forming Process of a Stainless Steel End Beam

Stretch formed parts can be found in many structures from aircraft to railway vehicles and appliances. In order to avoid quality problems and eliminate time and money consumption in trial and error, we have developed a method for stretch forming simulation of an end beam in railway vehicles. The FEA model is built using Hypermesh and ABAQUS/CAE commercial codes. The analysis is carried out based on dynamic explicit and displacement control method. The simulating results of high quality are used to determine jaw trajectory, as well as to develop numerical control codes of stretch forming equipment. The actual production process indicates that the method is feasible and economical.
