Modeling and Simulation of Dynamic Behavior of Valve Train
The dynamic model of the whole system of valve train is developed by the lumped-parameters method, taking into account the camshaft torsional and bending vibrations, the contact force model of cam and tappet was set up based on Coulomb friction principle. The camshaft model, valve spring model and the whole system model of valve train are solved simultaneously through the corresponding contact force. The contact stiffness coefficients are calculated by the finite element method. The results of this dynamic simulation agree very well with that from experiment. The developed model can be considered a good tool for analyzing or predicting dynamic behaviors that occur in valve train, such as valve jump, spring surge, cam-tappet contact, and camshaft torsional and bending vibrations.
