Simulation Study on the Decision Making Based on Damage Fragility for Bridge Structure

A simulation study for seismic financial risk assessment based on bridge damage fragility is conducted according to the performance-based probabilistic framework. Pushover analysis is performed to determine the damage states of bridge structure using OpenSees simulation platform to monitor the strain of the fibered section. And the seismic financial risk expressed in expected annual loss (EAL) can be quantified through the integration of seismic hazard, bridge damage fragility and loss ratio to code requirements. A bridge is taken as an example for urban rail transit and 40 earthquake records are selected as scenario earthquakes for incremental dynamic analysis (IDA). The result indicates that 83.7% of the seismic financial risk loss is resulted mainly from minor and moderate damage due to relative high annual frequency. The damage fragility curve is an essential tool to translate the seismic performance into financial loss for stakeholders decision-making.
