A new damage localization method using static test data
Using the static test data, a new method is proposed in this study for the detection of structural damage location. The algorithm makes use of an existing finite element model of the healthy structure and a subset of experimentally measured static displacement of the damaged structure. Using the static response equation and the flexibility disassembly, a new damage localization vector is defined in the method to locate structural damage by its nonzero entry. The proposed approach is shown to be computationally attractive because the damage location only requires matrix-vector multiplication. A 10-story shear building is used as a numerical example to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method. The illustrative example show the good efficiency and stability of the numerical model on the localization of structural damage. It has been shown that the presented methodology may be a promising tool to be used by research groups working on experimental damage localization.
