Design and Develop Vehicle Crash Detection Prototype Using Smartphones
Accident detection systems can help reducing fatalities after the accidents happened. Conventional in-vehicle accident detection systems are limited by their non-portability and cost. Nowadays, along with the development of smartphones and wireless mobile networks, it is feasible to provide the same functions as conventional systems. In this paper, a prototype called Vehicle Black Box is proposed to detect the gestures of vehicles using smartphones and their onboard sensors (such as GPS receivers and acceleration sensor). Vehicle Black Box can detect the collisions, record the data of emergency scene and dispatch emergency events to the rescuer around. It is vehicle-independent and more portability than conventional in-vehicle accident detection systems.
