How a Fun Chick Novel Helps Students with Their Project Writings: to Rid Impasse of General Perceptions
INTRODUCTION According to a major Taiwanese magazine, Common Wealth (Nov. Issue, 2002: 222-226), 90% of school teachers devote their efforts to creating an environment for reading. Unfortunately, the same survey indicates that the time students spend on their reading (textbooks excluded) is far less than might be expected. A survey of the current teaching in Taiwan EFL classrooms was conducted for this study. The survey suggests that the reading of novels has been generally ignored in EFL teaching. The survey finds that teaching material in the EFL classroom relies on a traditional textbook approach.
