A Multimedia Experiment for the Course Introduction to Interpretation

This paper describes an ongoing experiment to develop multimedia learning environment for English major students to learn basic interpretation skills. Recent development of technology for education has enabled multimedia tools to facilitate the interpreting training in an incredibly user-friendly way. We can dynamically and easily customize or re-design our teaching contents to suit the target learners, via elearning cyberspace, equipped with interactive multimedia devices and dimensional teaching materials. Some traditional training methods can be integrated and a semi-digitalized classroom can be created to achieve the skills the learners need more effectively and to make learning process more fun. In this digital experiment, various shadowing and notetaking exercises are designed, and learners participation and creativity are encouraged tremendously. The new complexities of computer technology inevitably expand the field for CALL, digital language training, and on-line course design. A framework for multimedia application will be presented and discussed.
