Current Status of Tailing Ponds in China and Framework for Safety Monitoring Technologies

Safe production relates to the fundamental interests of the vast masses as well as the bigger picture of the reform and development and social stability. Recent years have witnessed a number of accidents resulting in personal casualties and down slide of toxic contaminants due to dam breach of tailing ponds, which caused a major damage to the safety of peoples lives and properties, and brought about a major threat to the environmental safety. This paper, on the basis of a summary of the current conditions of Chinas tailing ponds, systematically analyzed the key problems existing with the safe operation and management of Chinas tailing ponds, and from the perspective of safety monitoring, corned up with the safety monitoring technologies and methodologies for the tailing ponds, which may provide a technical support for Chinas tailing ponds monitoring, control and safety management.
