Discussion on Methods for Pipeline Leak Detection
The research on methods for chemical pipeline leak detection is very important to avoid accidents, minimize economic losses and protect the environment. Compared with the research on long distance oil pipeline leakage, the study of chemical pipeline (such as cooling water coil, boiler pipe, etc) leakage is relatively insufficient. This paper summarized major methods of chemical pipeline leak detection that had been developed in recent years both at home and abroad such as the acoustical method, the flow quantity method, the pressure measurement method, etc. By analyzing their advantages and disadvantages, it designed a set of automatic detection system for chemical coil leakage based on flow difference and pressure difference. It also discussed several signal processing and analysis technologies that had been used in the detection system such as artificial neural network, linear regression, wavelet transform and Kalman filter. Finally, this article discussed some problems of the system that should be paid attention to in practical application and prospect the future development tendency of pipeline leak detection
