Comparison and Analysis of Different Small Scale Experiments on Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion

The boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion (BLEVE) is one of the most devastating accidents in process industry. To prevent this destructive accident effectively, it is necessary to investigate its mechanism. The small scale experiment is one effective method to solve the problem. There have been some small scale experiments conducted by different researchers. The experimental conditions and results of every experiment are different, and the hypotheses advanced by these researchers are different. To get more general conclusions, several small scale experiments conducted by different researchers are summarized and analyzed. Through this work, some rules behind the phenomena are suggested. The mode of nucleation of superheated liquid is summarized. The rules of pressure fluctuation in the vessel are suggested through comparing and analyzing different pressure curves. The effects of some parameters on the transient process are analyzed through summarizing the results of different experiments. Some suggestions are advanced for future works.
