Study on Thermal Hazard of Cyclohexanone Peroxide

The thermal decomposition of pure cyclohexanone peroxide (CYHPO) and its mixture with ethylene glycol, iso-caprylic acid or n-butanol is studied by Accelerating Rate Calorimeter (ARC). The characteristic curves and parameters of adiabatic decomposition are obtained, and the activation energy of the reaction is also calculated. After correction and analysis of the measured data, it can be concluded that the thermal decomposition of pure CYHPO is characterized by low temperature and high decomposition rate, which is very dangerous, but the addition of proper solvent to pure CYHPO can promote evidently the thermal stability of CYHPO and lower dramatically the thermal hazard of CYHPO decomposition.
