Mechanistic Study on FeS Oxidation
More and more People pay attention to the spontaneous combustion accidents of oil which is induced by ferrous sulfides. In this paper the TG and DSC results of FeS samples were gained by the thermal analysis experiments and the oxidative tendency of FeS was studied. It is shown that there are two peaks in the DSC curve of FeS sample. The first peak, which appears at about 142℃, arises from the phase transformation of FeS and the second peak, presenting at higher temperature, is the result of FeS oxidation. The rule of mass constant→mass gain→mass loss→mass constant emerges in the TG curve of FeS. This accords with the FeS oxidation process: phase transformation, physical and chemical adsorption and chemical oxidation. Used model-free method, the kinetic parameters are calculated. The apparent activated energy of FeS is 125.89 kJ/mol and the preexponential factor is equal to 1.55763×l0 11s-1. The oxidative reaction of FeS obey the Avrami-Erofeev kinetic model and
