A Structural Equation Model for Analyzing Underground Mine Safety

Behavioral safety analysis has been used widely as an effective tool of assessing coal mine security. The paper therefore makes examination of the role of behavioral factors about mine accidents and injuries through a case study in Heilongjiang Province. The paper developed a structural equation model for analyzing underground mine safety by means of SEM theory in terms of the complex of analyzing mine safety. The relevant parameters of the model were estimated by computer program LISREL, and goodness of the model fit is better, and this model can actually reflect mine system. The author considers that SEM model can be widely applied in mine safety evaluation and analysis. The research results show that accident group of miners are more absentees, job dissatisfied, negatively affected, and higher risk taking compared to the non-accident group of miners. The accident model path analysis shows that negative affectivity, job dissatisfaction, and expanding production imply an increased number of injui ies in mines.
