Numerical Simulation of Influence of Coal Spontaneous Combustion on Flow Field in Roof Falling Zone in Coal Mine
Coal spontaneous combustion in roof falling zone could not cause accumulated-methane explosion, while could cause gas explosion in some cases. Practical experiences show this is related to the depth of roof falling zone. This paper adopts FLUENT to simulate numerically. It can be seen that coal spontaneous combustion generates fire pressure forming a vortex flow in roof falling zone. The accumulated-methane can be diluted effectively by vortex flow and concentration is below the lower explosion limit when the cave depth is relatively low. And accumulatedmethane concentration can still in explosion limits when the cave depth is relatively high. The numerical simulation results reasonably explain why the possibility of methane explosion induced by coal spontaneous combustion is small. And the results also explain explosion could still occur for spontaneous combustion.
