Investigations on Nonlinear Theory of Coal and Rock Damage and Fracture
Uniaxial and triaxial compression tests on coal and sandstone were conducted under different kinds of conditions, including axial strain control, steady hoop strain control and under different confining pressures. After analyzing the process of cyclic loading and unloading on coal and sandstone, the results of the loading or unloading process indicate that stress and the elastic strain are the quadratic polynomial function, and coal and rock express the nonlinear elasticity characters. Based on the principle of damage mechanics and thermodynamics, the paper analyzes the test data, derives and establishes the nonlinear damage evolution equation and the nonlinear damage evolution constitutive equation of coal and rock.
