Effect of Protecting with Conduits on Insulation Failure of YJV Cable

The insulation failure conditions of YJV cables in different kinds of protecting modes were studied by means of the infrared thermal radiation furnace which could simulate different heat fluxes in fire. The test data showed that YJV cable insulation failure temperature was little influenced by protecting modes and radiation heat, which approximately remained at 523.4(1±7.8%) ℃. The cable insulation failure time decreased with the increase of exposure heat flux and increased when cable was protected by conduit evidently. Moreover, the protecting effect of metal conduit was slightly better than flame-retardant PVC conduit.
