Bayesian Network Coupled Model for Safety Evaluation of Two-Lane Highway
For construction of two-lane highway safety management system, a model for safety evaluation is proposed, which couples Bayesian network and method of sudden change in traffic density. Main characteristics of two-lane highway safety system are summarized, which are high emergence probability of moving bottleneck, unusual overtaking dilemma zone and large number of roadside accesses. The features can be abstracted as sudden change in traffic density, and safety evaluating model based on that is established. Improved photograph method is presented to investigate and analyze the emergence of sudden change in traffic density. Due to numerous factors and uncertainties in safety calculation with the model, Bayesian network is introduced to couple the model. The Bayesian network coupled model has the advantages in uncertainty reasoning, and can update brief with new investigated data easily, thus can be used in risk prediction and incident diagnosis for two-lane highway.
