Interaction Characteristics between Double Twisted Hexagonal Wire Mesh and Red Sandstone Backfill by Pullout Tests
Large pullout tests were conducted on double twisted hexagonal wire mesh embedded in red sandstone to investigate the soil reinforcement interaction. PVCcoated heavy galvanized of double twisted hexagonal wire mesh was tested with different applied normal pressures ranging from 7 to SO kPa. The double twisted hexagonal wire mesh specimens with 80×100mm cell sizes were pulled at a rate of 3 mm/min. In the conventional pullout test, the deformation and movement of double twisted hexagonal wire mesh known as necking phenomenon occurred simultaneously during the pullout process. In order to reduce thin phenomenon, the large pullout test was modified to install the special clamping system. The comprehensive investigation into the interaction characteristics of 2 kinds of core wire diameter (2.2mm and 2.7mm) with red sandstone was presented by pull out tests. The results of pullout tests can be used to guide choosing double twisted hexagonal wire mesh type and to make research on double twisted hexagonal wire mesh reinforcement mechanism.
