Effect of Sampling Depth on the Slope of Rock Mechanics Parameters

By studying the southeast slope of Huaneng Yimin open-pit mine and analyzing differences of mechanical property in different depths within the same strata of rock, it is deemed that when analyzing the slope stability containing thick rock, the rock parameters should be fully considered. Based on the fact that mechanical parameters is often identified by the case of general litho logic layer in open -pit slope stability analysis, this paper points out the necessity of carrying out the study of thick layer of rock structural parameters. Taking the southeast mudstone of Yimin open-pit slope as an example, this paper analyses the relationship between rock mechanics parameters and sampling depth, then puts forward the view that the mechanics parameters should be determined by the thick layer of rock according to the test results of parameters. The final results show that the mechanical parameter determined by thick layer section of rock and overall to determine the mechanical parameters is quite different from that determined by the overall rock, the difference degree may be even as high as 30%.Furthermore the determination of parameters will bring a direct influence to the analyses of slope stability.
