Study on Boundary Effect of Two Dimensional Landslide Model Test
Model test is an important method used in landslide mechanicals research. In two dimensional landslide model test, the sidewalls of landslide model equipment box are often made of glass material to observe model tests process easy. As the model box is not wide enough, the friction between glass sidewall and the local soil mass affects the similarity of the model and the prototype. To reduce the friction and simulate the mechanism of landslide efficiently, the interface friction test of soil and glass has carried out firstly. The friction property is affected by the physical mechanics character of soil such as water content and soil density obviously. Then the three dimensional particle flow code (PFC3D) method is applied to establish a landslide test model, and the impact of the glass boundary friction has simulated. The result indicates that, the displacement of soil near the model side boundary is obviously smaller than that of soil far away from the side boundary as the boundary friction effect. The boundary effect is different in different position of the slope body, and causes the test result deviation actual situation. At last the boundary friction is found that can be reduced by priming agar between the glass sides and soil mass.
