NanoSost: Looking after a Responsible and Sustainable Nanotechnology

NanoSost has been a PSE (Strategic & Singular Project) financed by the MICINN (Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation) and ERDF (European Regional Development Fund). It has been promoted by several members of PESI (Spanish Technology Platform on Industrial Safety), and leaded by the IQS Universitat Ramon Llull. NanoSost had a work plan covering three years regarding measuring nanoparticles in the ambient, chemical and biological safety of nanoengineered materials, prevention and protection safeguards and safety guidelines to assure safety and health of people and environment from R&D to domestic use and disposal. A change in the R&D Spanish policy forced to finish the project just one year and a half of running. However, its achievements have capital relevance for a better understanding the risks of nanoengineered materials and the measures to prevent damages to health and safety. This dissertation shows some of the most relevant results of NanoSost.
