Applied Detection Research of Mined-Out Areas in Underground Mine Based on Time Domain Electromagnetic Method

To solve the problem of mined-out area detection in underground mine and to guarantee safety in mining, a study of the mined-out area of a underground Iron Mine was carried out using newly developed Australian Terratem, with the guide of time domain electromagnetic theory. The detection of five tunnels in different length indicates that TEM can accurately reveal the distribution of shallow mined-out areas (10-40m). Compared with conventional electrical methods, it has a higher capacity in distincting the electricproperty in different medium and can predict the size, depth and scope of mined-out areas more accurately, Moreover, there is no limit on the length of the detection range and there aren t detection blind spots which occur in the condition of tradition high-density electrical method. It can also complete fixed point detection within a range of depth. Underground mined-out areas can be found out to meet the needs of safety in mining.
