Research on Economic Benefit Evaluation of Qiantang Dyke for Defending Storm Tide

The flood control standard of Qiantang dyke is greatly enhanced after two stages construction of 1950-1957 and 1997-2003, and dyke constructed plays an important role in defending storm tide and flood. The economic benefits of the first-stage and the second-stage projects in defending storm tides are evaluated by utilizing the real-year method and the frequency-curve method based on study on numerical model of storm tides and property analyzing method. The cost of the first-stage project is 0.182 billion RMB and the benefit is 1.950 billion, so the ratio of cost/benefit is 10.71. The cost of the second-stage project is 2.556 billion and the benefit is 9.941 billion, so the ratio of cost/benefit is 3.89. The results show that Qiantang dyke can greatly reduce the economic loss caused by storm tide.
