Three-Dimensional Pushover Analysis for Asymmetric-Plan Buildings under Bi-directional Earthquake Motions
The classic pushover analysis procedure depends on the 2-D structural analysis which is inapplicable for asymmetric structures. So, a three-dimensional pushover analysis procedure is proposed to estimate seismic responses of asymmetric-plan structures subjected to bi-directional ground motions. In the procedure, the displacement response of an asymmetric-plan structure is assumed to equate to the combined response of modal equivalent systems, and equivalent SDOF system subjected to earthquake motion combination for x and y components( γxnxg(t) + γynyg(t) ) is established. The procedure for evaluating earthquake demands of structures subjected to bi-directional ground motions is proposed in detail. The numerical results show that the threedimensional pushover analysis procedure can be used as a simple and effective method for estimating seismic demands of structures subjected to bi-directional ground motions.
